Hi,

I have a Standardbred gelding who is about 18 years old, I think. I rescued him so I don't have a lot of background information on him and his lip tatoo is un-readable.

I'm writing to get your opininon on his movements. He has a very unbalanced and bumpy trot and almost always drops his hind end in order to stop from the trot. I've recently been reading about stifle injuries and think that might be the cause. He also doesn't pick his back feet up very high when walking or trotting. I was first told that these were breed characteristics but I want to make sure I'm not injuring him before pushing him too much.

I do have a vet coming out, I just thought I would get some additional opinions first :)

Thanks!

Honestly from your description it could be a number of things. Video of his movement would help.
