We bought a 9yr Arabian about 2 months ago whom had been on pasture only for about a year and he looked pretty healthy, just needed a little weight on him. Well we feed our others grain with minerals every other day to every third day with free pasture on 6 acres and started him on the same. About a week after we got him we started noticing he would stop half way through eating, stand very still and curl his upper lip. I immediately suspected colic and took him for a walk but he would immediately perk up and act himself. So I shrugged it of as maybe mild gas colic? Or choke? So I started wetting his food but it didn't seem to help. This past week he had one of his spells and went down on me in his stall. He got up with without any fuss and we walked, he pooped, acted ok after a few hours and again was himself. Well yesterday he didn't meet me at the fence like normal and he was nowhere to be seen. I walked down to the barn and low and behold there he was down in his stall (not even a feed day). When I got him up he had diarrhea in his stall and on his back legs and his usually humongous Arabian nostrils where about half the size they usually are with drainage and he sounded congested. New symptoms freaked me out so as we walked for the next couple of hours I called a vet friend that said he had some symptoms of colic but could also be an allergy to something in the field he ate or bacteria imbalance or choke or URI?? to watch him and if she needed she could come out today. He was fine within a hour (except the snotty nose) and through the night and was himself by morning running around crazy. He had another spell tonight and everyone is scratching thier heads. Any suggestions or similar issues? I started him on Probio and Anihist but too soon to tell.
