My mare has been getting crankier and crankier about saddling and riding. I thought it was just an attitude, but the other day I noticed on her back, like on either side of her spine, little "bumps". Maybe the size and diamter of a pea. I tried to sort thru one--see if it was dirt or sweat that had stuck She turned around and got mad so I let them be. I figured they were fly bites. But thinking about it..Its not hardly fly season yet.

Today, my dad just noticed them again and asked me what they are.

Tomorrow morning I guess I will bust out the trusty oster clippers and shave around them and see..But til then..HAS ANYONE HAD A HORSE GET BUMPS AROUND THERE? She didnt have them in the winter. And they apparently make her sore :-(

Also, there's a kind of worm or grub that travels through the body & usually erupts out of the back area. It does make them sore & they shouldn't be rdden while this is going on.You midght want to check w/a vet.

Honestly..Im not sure that the saddle fits right. At all. No one has ever taught me how to fit one. I have a trainer coming this week for the first time ever, so she should have insight.

but i mean..they're kind of:

With that being the middle of her back. Worms maybe? But how? :-(

It could be lots of things. Have you checked your pad to see if there is anything on it that might be irritating her.

I've used the same saddle pad with her for months. I brush it before I brush her, just to cath anything that might be on there and bug her.

She is also hard to keep weight on, even though she gets wormed constantly. Her teeth are good (just had them floated).

My girls get bumps from mosquito bites, but the usually only last a couple days. I would call the vet if they are really bothering her.
