For the past month my mare's left teat has been swollen, a little larger than a quarter. I have monitored it every day and there is no increase or decrease in size. There's no heat, it's not hard, she's not irritable when touched, and the few times I have squeezed the teat only once has any liquid produced (barely anything-it was mostly clear, slight milky). I noticed last night that there seems to be some fluid accumulation in front of the area now. She had the same symptoms about 6-8 months ago but the swelling went down after a couple of weeks. I'm not sure if it's something that needs to be looked at (mastitis w/o heat or pain??) or if it's maybe just something she experiences because of her year round heat cycles from being under lights all of the time. Thoughts? Thanks!
