For the past month my mare's left teat has been swollen, a little larger than a quarter. I have monitored it every day and there is no increase or decrease in size. There's no heat, it's not hard, she's not irritable when touched, and the few times I have squeezed the teat only once has any liquid produced (barely anything-it was mostly clear, slight milky). I noticed last night that there seems to be some fluid accumulation in front of the area now. She had the same symptoms about 6-8 months ago but the swelling went down after a couple of weeks. I'm not sure if it's something that needs to be looked at (mastitis w/o heat or pain??) or if it's maybe just something she experiences because of her year round heat cycles from being under lights all of the time. Thoughts? Thanks!:D

My mare's udders get kind of swollen when she goes into heat, and I can usually get some milk out of her, sometimes it takes a few squeezes. She likes them fiddled with, it's the only reason I do it, hahaha. o_O

My TB had had a baby sometime before I got her, and I noticed the last year or so that I had her her teats were swollen, and she was definately producing some type of fluid. Wasn't the milk you'd see if she were pregnant or nursing, but it also wasn't any sort of infection. I noticed it shortly after one of the mares in the barn had a foal, though I'm not sure whether or not that really had any effect on her. As long as it isn't painful, hot, or obviously pussy, I'd just keep an eye on it, and make sure that you keep her teats cleaned, and see what happens.
