Today was, summed up, the most amazing day!!
It was a cool 80 degrees all day, and in Tejas, that's a big deal. There was scattered rain, and as afternoon rolled around, I was really happy that the weather was perfect for my monthly appointment with the owner of the barn and land I manage.
I'm always slightly worried, as I am with most everyone, that I wasn't living up to his expectations of the person he'd wanted to improve his property as the weather lately had been amazingly hot and I hadn't accomplished as much as I usually set out to do.
But as I walked up from my truck to meet him at the barn, the atmosphere was immediately positive. We walked the property discussing some improvements and projects we want to start soon, and I was really excited about the things he brought up.
He is installing a solar powered fountain system for the pond to keep it filled all year round, intends to stock it come fall, is planting a small fruit orchard toward the right corner of the property, offered to divide up my pasture more to give the opportunity to alternate and seed the pastures for better grazing, offered to finish out the rennovation on the tack room including a new running bathroom...and finally...asked if I would consider moving onto the property to manage it full time and extend our lease to the next 7 years.
...I can't believe it. So within a year, he wants to put a mobile home on site or even move a house from somewhere to be rennovated and in exchange for having on site management and someone to do repairs, etc, he will provide a place for me and my family to live on site so I can be with the horses every day!!
He also commented that he loved seeing what I was doing with the rescues that come in, enjoyed watching them improve and progress, and asked if I'd help his family find a horse to adopt as their own as well as give them lessons.
I'm so excited I could scream.
Lady luck threw my statement last week about my poor luck in my face and I couldn't be happier!!
