Well it has been a while but I have found my way back to you lovely people and your forum :)

I would love your help with a show name for this boy. Ill be registering him as a Clydesdale Sport Horse.
His stable name is Bailey, would love to somehow keep this in his show name but I am open to options!

Hopefully the photos I attached have worked ;) anything is possible!

I am always a bit puzzled, regarding show names, as on a breed circuit, you show under the registered name
You then have a'barn name' , that the horse sorta earns through his own personality
For instance, the registered name of my favorite horse of all time, was Cody Chrome, but his barn name was Einstein.
He earned that name, because when he was born, at first he only nursed on one teat, causing his dam to become sore
One of my sons noticing that, said, 'now there is a real Einstein: !
Why do sport horse people not show under the registered name, and then have a name that fits that horse for every occasion outside of the showring?

I did have a filly that I registered as Cody's Irish Cream', using some part of both the dam and sire;s name. Her sire was Colorado Cody, while her name was Irish Love Bug
Her barn name was Bailey
What are the names of his sire and dam?
Can you combine parts of that, for his registered name and thus show name?

My unregistered QH's name is Pistol and I showed him under... Pistol :)
Yes, but you were not showing a registered AQHA at an AQHA approved show.
You can call ahorse anything you like at open shows, but not at breed shows where points are kept. I often did not bother to show my horses under their ApHC registered names at open shows

I show my registered horses under their registered names. Clouds name came from his papers, Riley - I named him his barn name before I registered him but his registered name has both sides of the family in it.

Alot of times people have to register their horse w/ a show name. Like mine have virginia horse show registrations for the hunter/jumper shows. Blue is registered as Tombstone (that's his real name). I think that's where people look for show names.

I guess still somewhat confused. Why can't you use their registered name at all shows, if you want to?
I can show Smilie at any show, other then ApHC as either that barn name of Smilie, or by her registered name of Miss Kilo Bright
If the horse already has a barn name, and you don't need to use the registered name, why not use that one, instead of a third name?

I've never understood show names at all. I can understand a requirement to have a unique registered name, but this would be very simply addressed by attaching some personal prefix of the breeder to an ordinary name. Like if Bailey had been bred at Brook Farm, he could be registered as Brook Farm Bailey. What more does anyone need? If you are registering him yourself, why not call him Trickrider's Bailey? (I mean, probably your real last name).

If it is 'just because you can' and it's fun, you could call him anything. Goldflower MacIntosh. Arthur's Preamble. Tuckabuckaway. But if you are struggling because you aren't good at naming, why struggle? Just call him Bailey. If you feel that isn't fancy enough call him Mister Bailey. Or Sir Bailey. Or Dictator For Life Bailey (okay, if you do that don't tell anybody that was my suggestion).

Some great names guys ! I am loving Bailey's Irish Cream :) Very CUTE!

A little info for those who have asked why I am naming him.
His parents are not registered therefore they do not have registered names to go off, in previous circumstances like this that is what I have done.
The lady who bred him does not have a Stud Prefix otherwise I would have used this as well.

He is only a baby, not previously registered and there for it is up to me to register him for the first time :)

Thank you all for you suggestions :D

I named my Appaloosa Dreams because I'd always wanted to have spotted horse. He's also the first horse I've ever personally owned that I trained from the ground up. Both were dreams of mine. When I sent in his registration papers to the ApHC my first choices in order were Hirameki Dreams, Harukaze Dreams, Technicolor Dreams.

Rough translations from Japanese are, in order, Flashy Dreams, Wild Wind Dreams (using the less common translation of "harukaze", the more common meaning is "spring breeze" or "light breeze"), and Technicolor I think needs no translation if you check out his coat pattern. ; )

He very well could be, Smilie, I bought him grade for $200. I had to register him as a hardship gelding since I have no information about parentage. His previous owner has a bunch of stallions that aren't registered or broke, running with a bunch of mares that aren't registered or broke, so it's anyone's guess who the sire is or what, if anything, his grand-parentage has accomplished. It's a shame really, there are some really nice looking, great minded horses in the bunch. Get the ******s broke, showing and registered and she'd have a goldmine.

From a resale standpoint, I always encourage a person to show their horses under the registered name in open shows, so they have a show record that matches the registration name.

If they have a registered show name they usually use it. You still have to register for that state or show circuit but you just use your registered name. I think where you are confused is that these horses aren't registered w/ a breed organization. The one we are helping the OP to "name" is a mix-breed so she may not even know the parents names.

So...

My issue with Baileys Irish Cream is that it's been used a gazillion times. A Bailey is a protective wall surrounding a castle... But I can't think of a good name that go's with that... A Clyde is certainly big enough to be a "protective wall"... Just can't come up with something....

Good luck on finding that 'perfect' show name!
I've done one show and the horse had to have a show name. The horse has a call name of Asher. His show name went from Wave smAsher to just plain Prince Asher. He was a pretty cute Prince Asher in the end!
