When I first started riding, even though I was set on Western riding, my instructor insisted I start out English as she felt I would be a better Western rider if I did. But after I learned the basics I got in a Western saddle, started contesting, and never looked back. However, I recently aquired a pony who is quite the little jumper so I am going to get back into English (Though I'll NEVER put my Western saddle away and stop barrel racing!). I think I have found a place to take jumping lessons and I am going to get paddock boots, half chaps and start! My question is, is there anything I can do now (in my Western saddle) that will help me get back into English? I will be buying an English saddle soon, but until then, is there any exercises, etc. that I can do? I may not start taking lessons for a couple weeks so if there is anything I can do in the mean time, that would be great. I'm very excited about starting! :) Any "English" tips would be great as well. I almost feel like I'm starting over learning to ride! :D
