So I just started boarding my paint at a new barn, and am a bit concerned with the horse trainer's methods. To start off with, she is not one of the friendliest people, in fact she comes off as down right nasty. She is always critiquing, which is fine, but she has a total attitude and never says anything positive. Now, I'm one to stay away from people like this, so I have just been minding my own and working with my horse independently, but I can't help but notice how rough she is with horse's mouths. When she is "working with" the lesson horses, she yanks on their mouths until they put their heads down. One day when I was riding in the arena she said she wanted to "help" my horse, and when she got on took the reins, put her hands way up in the air and pulled as hard as she could until he put his head down. Then she proceeded to call him stubborn and told me that he had nasty habits. She claims that this is a dressage method, but never in my 13 years working with horses have I ever seen a trainer work like this. Am I just being paranoid? Or is this really a training method? Help!
