Hi everyone,
my 5 years old mare is finally on regumate for 2 months. I gave her mare magic before and she is still agonizing from time to time, so I decided to switch.
she has been very good on regumate for the past 2 months until last week, she reacted badly(kicking at grooming) and bucking when my trainer rode her. I noticed she got irritated on only one side, esp around small colon and top of the serum area, but i am not completely sure if it is ulcers or she may have cyst in her ovary (Seems a bit young for it, no?)
I plan to give her some ulcer guard and supplement to see if that helps her feeling better. Some people on internet suggested aloe Vera juice and peppermint tea. Does anyone try these? Do they help?
if all the above not help, I will get the vet. But shall we do a scoping or x ray? The reason I ask is, x ray seems able to tell both, ulcers and cyst. Are these tests expensive?
If ulcers, it seems the treatment will last for a month and gas guard is very expensive, and if the ulcers caused by bacterias, then it will not be the right medicine either. From what I read, ulcers may heal by itself overtime if the horse eats right, and if my mare syndrome is not severe (she is only reactive when you touch the sensitive areas, nothing else, eat well, not distressed either), shall I try the natural way (apple cider vinegar etc + supplement) Instead of paying for the expensive bills for vet and drugs?
anything else you recommend?
first time dealing with this, so I want to educate myself before talking to vet.
Many thanks.
