Though I would post an update on the two blond kids (yearlings) that joined our herd this Oct.
Jack and Jill, (yes, original, but the are 3/4 related ), are doing fine. They have made themselves at home, and are turned out fulltime,.
I brought them in last weekend, and gave them their first 'serious' hoof trimming session. In other words, first two times, I held their feet with one hand, just had them ground tied, while I got them used to hoof handling.

This time, I expected them to stand tied, and allow me to use my hoof jack.
Both had one short lesson with the body rope, and then \got with the program!.

Both have great dispositions, and after their trimming, were relaxed and fine to be haltered the following day

Spring will be soon enough to work on other stuff.

They look great! Good job with the hooves.

Honestly, the snow doesn't look so bad to me. We've had a wet fall, which means mud. I had a bunch of sand brought in, but there are still puddles. Kind of looking forward to snow.

I have become spoiled since I retired 900 miles SE of my roots, lol. It has been in the high 60's F all week, which is about ten degrees (F) above average. The weather party will be over by the middle of next week, when your darn artic air front will sink clear down here and send our temps to below normal, lollol

I honestly would rather see snow, instead of the ice we generally end up with. One year the ice was so thick in the main pasture the horses couldn't break thru so I shut them out for nearly a week. They had the front one acre but I had four back then and they were not happy, lol

Well, since those pictures, we now have ice, sigh!
Temps went from minus 20 C up to plus 13C, when a Chinook rolled in.Snow melted, then temps dropped enough to freeze any standing water, packed snow that remained.
Thus, while I would love to ride now, with temps just around the freezing mark, I can't even do chores without ice cleats on my boots.
I did ride Charlie briefly the other day, with studded hoof boots on her front feet, but just seemed stupid after awhile,as her back feet were still bare.
Only good thing, since I can't ride, unless I haul at the moment, I got all the hroses' feet trimmed, tack room cleaned up, insulators there were missing on fence posts nailed up, and am even thinking of getting down to the dreaded business of cleaning tack.
Yes, my house remains, low priority, far as cleaning those cupboards, ect!

It was 65 degrees here today and has been very warm and dry for weeks. It should not be that warm here in Iowa this time of year. That's just....weird.

...although I must admit a series of warm, pleasant weekends to get things done outside and ride have been nice!

Lucky, you SilverM.!
I neglected to use my boots with the ice cleats today, just hiking down our laneway, where one can skate on, to cross the road , equally icy, and go across a neighbor's field, who has cleared a bunch of trees, to see how much spruce suitable for firewood is there.
I mean ,the field is okay to walk on, not packed down by any animals, thus mainly dirt with some snowy patches. All I had to do get get down our laneway and across the road, and not fall-easy right?
Wrong! I did my third plant this week!
