I recently purchased a Rhino turnout and it has the strap across the back (under tail) rather then leg straps (see photo for idea) (Rambos and Amigos work the same way)

However, my mare seems to pee right on it and now the snap is stuck in place and of course the whole nylon strap is stiff and REEKS and I don't even want to touch it with my hand - GAG. But this is a lightweight blanket she'll be wearing all spring to keep her dry from the rain so it comes on and off all week long for riding.

Has this style snap but w/ one end just threaded thru the D ring:

What can I do? Can I replace it with something else? Doesn't seem like I should go without? How about enduring touching it but use a different kind of snap that won't get stuck? Like this one so there no spring or anything to be damaged from the acid:

Hmm.. it was already tightly fitted. It had the adjustable buckle on it too. I removed it and washed it down tonight and put it back on but loosely this time to see if that helps at all. I'll also see if I can catch her peeing to see what's going on, that might help figure out a solution as well.

My one mare pees on hers all the time too. Drives me batty, as it freezes up from being outside, and then you have a nice pee-sicle snap to undo!!

I just endure it...gross, but I, wearing gloves most of the time, so I just buck up and unsnap it.

I take the straps off at the end of the week and wash them, so it doesnt get too gross. but yeah, not fun. And mine are done up as tight as they can go comfortably for her....silly mare

Yeah I was just wondering if Horsewear would continue this design if they knew all the mares peed on it all the time. :/

:/ im probably going to get a virtual slap on here now but..... here goes lol my mares rug has leg straps, but i took them off so now she only has the straps that go under her belly :/ the rug doesnt move or change in any way ao i was just wondering is that strap very important?? p.s i took them off because the day we put them on my mare had never had a rug on before as she was owned by spanish and there quite far behind lol wel as the strap hang a lil she thought there was a horse eating monster between her legs and started bolting and bucking all around the field hahahah was funny to watcch but i dont like the thought of her asociating that fear with the rug.

well, it's to help the blanket from shifting. and my mare lays down EVERYDAY (I know because she's constantly muddy, esp on the neck/cheek) and her blanket isn't ever shifted... and I know anther mare who uses no leg straps, only the belly ones and hers is constantly sideways on her... I could certainly try it and see how it goes.

I doubt Rambo is going to change their design. They have had this design for ages.

I have found the best way to deal with it is to have multiple straps and when it is yucky put a clean strap on and wash the other.

Try keeping an eye on her for a bit and you may be able to adjust it so it does not get yucky quite so quickly.
