Very lame mare...can't find the cause

I went to take care of my horses tonight and Buttercup, my paint mare, could barely walk. She is extremely lame on her front left leg but I couldn't find any swelling and there wasn't anywhere that was hot. I could pick up both her front legs but she almost went down when I picked up her right one. Her feet looked ok except she looked to be getting some thrush so I put some medicine on it. And her feet were trimmed about a month ago. I also gave her some bute and put Absorbine on her leg. But I can not understand why she is so lame or what is causing it. The only thing I can think of is she got into a fight with my sister's gelding and he kicked her but like I said there's no swelling or heat anywhere.

Agree abscess.

Sudden onset no other symptoms.

I would keep her in/in a small paddock until she feels better. Bute and wrap her foot with a drawing agent. You can give it a hot soak too.

Skip the absorbine, it's not something I'd use for an injury without knowing what it was anyways. If you think you need to and know how you can do standing wraps in front.

I would give it a couple days and keep a regular check for other symptoms, if you find something or no change after a few days I would call the vet.

You can also get hoof testers or a hoof pick, see if you can pinpoint any heat or pain in/around her foot.

I agree with likelihood of abscess. But I would not suppress it with bute, or restrict movement. I would ensure there was somewhere soft that she was comfortable standing/lying, and not where she was forced to exercise, but not try to prevent it either. Soaking in epsom salts can help bring it to the surface quicker & easier.

This horse could be suffering from an abscess as the horse is extremely lame and it was onset, however the horses hoof should be quite hot if there is an abscess. I used to work at a horse stud, and we had a mare that suddenly became very lame, and she had no heat, however when the farrier came out he went to have pick her hoof back and she nearly fell down and ran back too, and it turned out that she had a shoulder heamatoma, and this had happened because she had been kicked in the paddock

I'm on the abscess band wagon. I would soak the foot in warm water and epsom salt twice a day until the abscess busts open. Once it opens I would start using some ichthomal to continue pulling out the ick and would wrap w/ a diaper. I would soak a few days after it bursts as well.

It was definetly an abscess as I was examining her hoof I found this. She is still very lame but seems to be able to get around better and is in better spirits. I have been soaking it twice a day with epsom salts to help it along as quickly as possible.

Yes, looks like there's an abscess that's burst on the coronary border toe quarter, but I'm imagining you're talking of the crescent shape? That looks like an injury - she's staked herself on something possibly. But more to the point, while it's hard to tell much from that angle pic, her foot looks very... wrong. Lumpy hoof wall, looong toe & looks like long, run forward heel too.
