Well some things are not new, its still cold. And I am having weird breakfast again. Potato salad and a coke. At 5 30 am. Are you a sweet or dill relish person?

How was your week? weather adjusted? Plans for tonight and this weekend?

Whats on the menu? I have been eyeing that new Arbys sandwich. About time actually. Real roast beef.

Watching the playoffs this weekend? Having a party or going out?

Anyone do New Years resolutions? How is that going? TBH I never was much on them, but this year did not even cross my mind.

And of course anything welcome.

Morning!!! Dill relish for me. More of a dill than sweet pickle person.

It's the swing in temps that gets me more than the actual temp.

Working with a 3 year old this weekend on trailer training. If it goes smoothly I'll have time to ride. The rain last weekend was hard and steady. Didn't get much of anything done.

Three funerals. One weekend. One is out of state. The two here are polar opposite in approach. Today is a celebration of life and tomorrow will be hard to get through.

Don't do football except for the odd occasion I'm home then there's usually food, fun and plenty of socializing for those of us that don't watch.

Happy Friday all!

It's been a dry week with sunny and cloudy days, quite mild at times. We have weak sunshine today, about 6C/42F.

Occasionally a chutney person, usually sweet and spicy. If I'm going to have some, it'll be on cheese sandwiches rather than with dishes. I've an old unopened jar in my cupboard, so that's a good indication to how often I take it. (Also, I can't open it, I've tried everything and refuse to throw it out!)

My week wasn't very exciting, just meetings, paperwork and some training. I'm off today and tomorrow. I've been into town this morning, I've just had lunch - tomato soup, and I'm going to spend some time clearing my garden later.

I'm planning to ride tomorrow morning, hacking out with a friend then working with the horse with no patience; he's getting better at standing when asked, especially when mounting and at road junctions.

If I've enough time and light after work on Sunday, I said that I'd join friends at their place to shoot a round of archery then stay on for tea; they're great cooks so it's something to look forward.

Playoffs is your football? I'm a Rugby person, the Six Nations start next week!

No New Year resolutions, I'd never keep them.

Sweet relish here.

We were in the 80s a couple days ago, but woke up to a frost this morning.

No New Year resolutions here... Don't believe in them.

Very excited (maybe a bit nervous too since it's been over 2 months since I've ridden) as my trainer is in town. Hope to have an in-depth in-person discussion with her in the next few days. Want to set up a schedule for her working with our horse and working with me.

If I watch any football, it might be as I'm passing by the TV. Tend to not watch much at all except for old movies. My thing is, when my mom is here for half the year, to do puzzles with her and play card games with her and play dominos/ rummikub/scrabble with her and play mahjong with her etc.

LOVE THESE FRIDAY POSTINGS!

@aubie Potato salad and coke isn’t a bad breakfast, depending on whose potato salad it is - I am picky about that. If I were still drinking colas, it would be Pepsi for me — I once past an informal taste test of knowing the difference between Coca Cola and Pepsi:)

Weather: my thought is we will continue to see these wild swings. Today the air will come up from the gulf which is a good thing during the winter, not so much in the summer.

Playoffs: No but I will try to catch Chris Stapleton at half time:)

My only New Years Resolution for the last forty years has been to not make any —- and I have kept it😂😂

@QtrBel Three funerals — that’s tough, I am so sorry😢. I hope your three year old does well with his trailer lessons. I had a long three year old that would load every time at home — not so much when we got to the trail head and it was time to go home, lol

My resident barn Wren is starting her mating calls — they certainly are a prolific bird, but they need to bee the haphaz way they build their nests.

Some areas of the pasture have been greening up. The horses favor the bottomland because it’s warmer down there and there is overflow from the neighbor’s pond.

I have been making half hearted attempts at logging Into my old photo bucket account, to no avail🤐🤐.

I also have an ancient My Space account I would like to access as it has photos of Sultan (RIP) on there.

In the meantime “One Drive” sent me the link to that account because they want me to upgrade and give them money - I’ll be sure to jump right on that😂

One of the fotos was this 2010 pic of Rusty and me — probably our last real ride. Rusty was around 16, I was 63 and sitting crooked even though I was sure I was sitting straight — that’s what a damaged spine will do and all of my horses learned to compensate on my behalf🥰🥰🥰🥰

All of my horses learned to stand still anywhere I put them, so I could get on. At 16.1H, Rusty had to put up with the worst of my antics🥰

I've always found it fascinating the number of nests a male wren builds to attract a mate. Then once he finds a mate they build a nest together...

Wow. It IS Friday. Quick week, in spite of being home much of it.

Dill relish, if I have to use any relish. Not a big fan of pickled anything.

We've gotten about 4 more inches of snow. Made snowmen with the grandkids.

Still no TV. Going on 18 years, I think. So I'm not up to date on sports or TV shows.

I got a new bathtub installed and had some patching to do on the walls. Now I have to paint, but I haven't decided on a color and am going to take my time. Right now the bath and the kitchen are both the same pretty bright peach color. It's okay because the walls are in good shape, but I don't want to keep the color.

Already thinking of selling this place when I get the pasture and water finished. We'll see. Honestly, I always wanted to go to a season of harness racing in Ireland. If I'm going to, it needs to be in the next couple years when I can still do the work. And then I'll be ready to go to the southwest US. We'll see.

We’ve had cold this week and finally got a bit of snow. Only about 4” but better than none. Farrier came out on Tuesday but no riding for me this week. I can’t handle my frozen toes. I’m fine as long as I’m active but sitting on a horse just doesn’t allow enough warmth to the toes. I found some of those insole warmers this week so I might try them today. It’s supposed to be the warmest day of the week.

If I eat any at all, it’s sweet relish for me. I only use it in meat salads.

Only new year’s resolution is to not gain the weight back that I lost last year. So far I’ve done good.

We are football watchers in our family and since we are from Ohio, we will be watching the Bengals game. Might go over to my son’s to watch and hang out. Who Dey!!

Happy Friday all!! Whew.... I do sound like a broken record but something has got to give.... by Wednesday I had put in enough work for it to be Friday... ugh! I keep hoping but it just doesn't happen. I used to sometimes could ride on Friday but that doesn't happen anymore. Kinda sad about that, because it seems the weekend is usually crappy!

Funny I like all things dill! BUT for my tarter sauce I like the sweet relish.... but I've been on an olive spread kick that adds just a little something extra.

I don't make a hard resolution but I always say this year I'm going to cuss less and be nicer! I try.... but! I get things like yesterday. I see a local call, my area code is 772 and here it's 919 and it had a suggestion of my neighbor. I pick up.... he said are you missing a couple of animals? Hmm dogs? They are right here, he said Nope.... Chickens?? Nope bigger... I scream! Yikes!! My guys were in his yard the gate wide open... now I have no clue how that could have happened. You kind of have to lift the gate to open.... Captain is notorious for letting everyone out. I go with a hay string and look at Wrangler and like seriously???!!! I lead him back the other 2 follow... my heart was racing! I couldn't believe it.... so lots of cussing! lol

I will watch a little football, I really wanted the Bills to win(sorry @twhvlr) to have a reason to watch... but I really don't have anyone I like to watch in the playoffs...

Challengers birthday is in a week.... Happy 22nd! Give me 22 more years please! Yesterday while he was walking back from the neighbors he was just prancing and what not.... not looking a day over 10! :)

I hope everyone has a Great and Safe weekend! I hope to ride eventually!!

@QtrBel: Sorry about your losses.

@Caledonian: I had a man on one of my work teams who was an avid Rugby player. Depending on how rough he looked (he always said he felt great but could be a bit worse for wear physically) on the various Monday mornings, I'd either send him out to client sites or have him work remotely.

@twhvlr: I may not watch much US football, but I do like Joe Burrows. I lived in Ohio when I was in grad school.

UPDATE

@lb27312: OMG, my heart would be racing if I got that call. 22 for Challenger is wonderful. Our boy is coming 21. This morning when I got him out for a monthly shot by the vet, he was very jiggy in the cool temps here. If you like olive spread, maybe try some hummus with olive tapenade - Yummy IMO.

Not a relish fan. I rarely eat potato salad. Three funerals in one weekend is a lot. Even in a month would be a lot.

The birds expressed their appreciation of me refilling the suet feeders yesterday. I was buzzed by a Junco and a Nuthatch. When I went back inside many birds suddenly appeared. I heard them start calling when I was refilling the feeders.

I’m loving the snow. It’s so beautiful.

I’m not really a sports fan. I don’t care for much anything above the high school level. I despise most professional sports for many reasons.

On that note, I am going to one of the few professional sports I do like tonight and tomorrow. PBR is coming to town and I’m going with some family. I’m not looking forward to the drive, trying to find parking, and then trying to escape the city afterwards.

The work week sucked. I was more than “peopled out” by the time my days off showed up.

I don’t watch much television anymore (usually only if I’m at someone else’s house). I mainly watch DVD series, movies, and online web streaming services. Few to almost no commercials.

Good morning all! Frost on the ground this morning. We’ve had about an inch of rain this week and starting tomorrow, we have a chance of rain every day for a week.

I am the potato salad queen in my family. It’s not a true family gathering if I didn’t provide the potato salad. I use sweet relish and I have a secret ingredient handed down by my mama and her mama before her! I always says my tombstone will read, “Here she lies,
quiet and pallid, but she made a mean potato salad!” LOL!

Sorry to hear of your losses, @QtrBel.
I spent last evening visiting with my BFF, and she went to two funerals on Saturday. Had a great visit with her…she is the one who knows ALL my secrets and I know all hers. I can completely be myself around her and I know she accepts me as I am, as I do her. We’ve been friends over 40 years. It’s weird, she’s not into horses at all, we have differing views on religion and politics, but somehow it works.

My personal life has gone to proverbial h*ll in a hand basket so I will be looking to work with the horses this week to keep me somewhat sane. I’ve been in the sewing dungeon this week making new stuff for the Cowgirls so that keeps me busy as well.

One sort of cool thing I didn’t mention last week is my high school was hosting a tribute to my high school basketball coach and had sent out a call for alumni to join in the tribute as
well. The team I played on was the first team in 50 years to make it to the State Tournament (back when girls’ basketball was still six-man). The coach amassed a record of 877-256,
and had four teams who were either state semi-finalists or state finalists.
I went to a really small school (42 in my senior class), and I was sort of amazed at the turnout of the alumni. We had 45 women from classes covering all the way back to 1968….he left a pretty amazing legacy and my sister and I still
quote him when coaching the Cowgirls! Anyway, just an interesting tidbit from life in general

My only New Year’s resolution was to get back on Keto, and I’ve been good about that.

I don’t know about supper tonight. Maybe breakfast tacos, since it’s back to being cold.

I won’t be watching the playoffs. After the Cowboys’ dismal loss, I don’t care who the other teams are. After being a Cowboys fan for over 50 years, though, I may be looking for a new team to root for. Being their fan is like being in a bad marriage, one of us is not putting in their best effort!!!

My son has a follow up medical appointment Monday to get some results of his testing so I’ll be heading to Houston for that.

Y’all have a safe, warm and happy weekend! Sorry for the novel

Wow, ten posts already and I'm barely out of bed! LOL! Oh well, working on my second cup of coffee and have fed the horses.

Pickles...that's a hard one. I have several jars of fermented home made dills that my husband loves. I guess my favorite is sweet home made pickled beets, used sparingly in a salad. They're made with honey.

We are expecting an Arctic cold front to sag down this way, but it's supposed to be pretty dry. The bad part is the nasty cold wind that blasts through the Columbia River Gorge from east to west and accelerates into our area. There will be bitter wind chills. That's all supposed to set up by sometime tomorrow, so plans for the weekend are to keep everybody warm and wait for the lights to go out! LOL!

Hoofie trims are always on the list for weekends. Laddie has a new 6 1/2" bit to try. All his 6" bits are actually a little too small for him. So if there's a calm spot before the weather front tomorrow, I may squeeze in one more ride.

Here's a picture of the Columbia River Gorge, to show the "crack in the Cascades" that lets all the frigid, dry east wind blow into "our side". The building is called Crown Point. I think they clocked winds over 100 miles an hour there in one storm last month.

I love pickled veg of all types, but relish, not for me. Football- another nope. Can't stand how the NFL exploits its players and leaves them wrecked at the end of their careers, all to make billions of dollars for owners, advertisers, and broadcasters. Football was huge in our high school, and seeing high school level coaches pump teenagers who were my friends full of steroids and testosterone to win some games- yuck.

We've had days of snow this week with no break. Frustratingly, the last storm ended with sleet and rain, leaving an icy crust over the top of close to a foot of snow. That really wrecked what had been nice footing for riding. I had a couple of nice snowy rides, but we're iced in now so no riding for at least a couple of weeks when temps are back to above freezing.

Happy Friday all!

@QtrBel , my sympathies on your losses. 3 all at once is hard to handle.

@walkinthewalk , yeah, photobucket is holding a bunch of my pictures hostage too.

@boots , my maternal grandparents liked to move a lot but I didn't inherit that gene. In their younger years they would buy run down farms and get them cleaned up and productive again. Then in their later years it became houses. It provided them with a good living. I can't imagine trying to pack up this place. SHUDDER! LOL

@tempest, I'm so jealous you're going to the PBR event this weekend! I'll be watching it on TV though.

We are getting some sunshine today but it's still cold and very gusty. We had another snow come through Wed. night but this time it was predicted so not such a surprise. It has already melted enough that there is only patches of it on the ground. By Sunday we're supposed to be back up in the mid 50's F.

Not that I use it all that often but it's sweet relish when I do. I like it on hot dogs but the only time I'll eat those is at a weenie roast. Also use it in potato salad and ham salad. I think the hubby keeps a jar of every kind of pickle imaginable open in the fridge. He takes up all the door space and half a shelf in the fridge with all his pickles and other condiments.

He'll be watching football, I won't be. I can't even sit beside him during a game if I don't want to hear a play by play commentary. Makes it hard to concentrate on a book so I'll hide out in a different room. LOL That said, he munches through the game so I won't be doing much cooking this weekend. Might turn some leftover chili into some chili-cheese nachos.

When the bank sent out their statements for Dec. it had a little notice on it that starting in Feb. any checking account that was inactive for 18 months and savings account for 6 months would be charged a $10.00 monthly fee. 😲 The banker in me could not make sense of that so I went to the bank this week fully prepared to close our accounts and move to a different bank. So, yes, they did have that backwards and we got a solution figured out to make sure the savings never got charged and I didn't have to move the accounts after all. Good thing I read the fine print!

It doesn't do me any good to make New Year's resolution because I never stick with them.

I’d like a refund on the last 60 days and would like to start a new subscription of 2023 please.

Started testing a few days of the funeral. Figured with people flying in from everywhere, and not everyone had masks (wore mine in the church but not at the reception when I sat with my grandma and there was well… food) that it wouldn’t be a bad idea to test, just to “hope for the best and prepare for the worse” (did not feel sick, even went riding on Monday and felt dandy). Lit up the test strip on Tuesday. Luckily, I’m asymptomatic and have been happily hidden away in my room taking naps all day and watching Disney+ shows. I’m weathering this just fine.

My mom, my 94yo grandma and my great-aunt (Grandpa’s youngest sister who is about a decade younger than he was) also tested positive. Probably a few more people did too.

My weekend is gonna be mostly typically a normal weekend for me (hide in my room and watch streaming shows … yep, I’m an introvert, but now I have a legit excuse). Not so much the usual pony time, but that can wait. Mitch is fine and dandy hanging out.

I've never been much of a breakfast foods for breakfast person. I'd much rather eat soup or a sandwich, left over spaghetti or pizza for breakfast and scrambled eggs, hashbrowns and pankcakes for dinner. It's ok, my kitchen, my rules.

Sweet relish. I actually detest just about all dill pickles. I can occasionally stand dills if they're Mt. Olive, other brands......nope. Uck. I'm just not much on Dill, regardless of how it's used.

Been kind of a crazy week, so typical January for OK. Temps were 70-80 F, last week. Then we had the "Blizzard of 2023" on Tuesday, probably got about 4 inches of snow,. which shut everything down. Nothing much but temps were cold and it was windy. Melted off by 9 a.m. on Weds. Temps warmed up a bit, 50's now cold and colder front coming by Sunday, down in the 20's for highs again. Maybe down in the teens by next week. And then it's be Feb. which is trationally just bitter around here. We'll see.

Tonight, gonna do a feed run, go out for supper, don't know where yet. This weekend, do some maintenance work around the place. Nothing big or exciting.

No menu, no parties, no play offs and definitely no resolutions. Don't need the guilt when I never follow through with them. Siiiigh, we're old and boring. In bed by 8 p.m. usually.

How's everybody else? Everybody healthy? Hubby is seeing TONS of flu, not a lot of Covid on base, but supposedly a bunch in the civilian sector, and LOTS of RSV in adults, that's new.

We went to an NAHL hockey game last week. That was a lot of fun. Those kids were actually pretty good, 16-20 years old, looking to get into NCAA leagues. It was downright genteel compared to the NHL games we're used to. I bet they all still even had their own teeth! ;) We'll go again. Found it interesting, the refs weren't calling icing much until the last period, then they started calling the penalties. The announcers weren't familiar with hockey, so they weren't able to call the plays, so if you weren't familiar with the game, it was going to be very confusing. Shoot, I forgot to mention I located record players and vinyl records for sale in Walmart yesterday. I saw a Jason Aldean record…
What's old is new again... I did not make that up! I still have my Earth wind & fire, seals and croft, and a couple other albums. We no longer have a record player.

One of the ladies at my optometrist office was wearing polyester bell bottom pants. Reminded me of watching Beetlejuice.

Continuing with the pickle theme, I am not a big fan as a general rule. My husband will eat anything pickled because he grew up with his father having a pickling barrel and everything went in it. I will say that pickled green beans and pickled brussel sprouts and pickled mushrooms and cocktail onions in a Bloody Mary are pretty delish though.

@CaliforniaDreaming: hope you and your family don't have any adverse outcomes from getting covid.

I can't remember who said their spouse was treating adults with rsv. I know quite a few people who had that last year and they said it was tougher than covid for them.

With the drop and temperatures for us, my mom came up with a little bit of a chill yesterday. Bundled her up, jacked the temperature in the house, put a couple Tylenol in her, made sure she ate, and she went to bed early. Woke up this morning say she was feeling just fine. We needed to drop a huge load of brush off at the recycle center and she was insistent she wanted to go and help. She looked like Nanook of the north when she got out of the truck, but she's feeling better. She did decide to go back and take a nap right now so I'm glad about that. She felt good enough before going for her nap to make tomato soup and grilled cheese. Very yummy.

To whomever said that their posts were very long, I would say I probably would tend to be much more verbose than you.

If I haven't said it before, I love love love these Friday threads!!!
