Well, last weekend I got a phone call from a long time horse friend (known her since I was knee high to a grasshopper) about a mare that I "needed" to go get. Owner was in a bit of a pinch and had to hurry to find good homes for a couple of horses. Wasn't planning on buying another at the moment but I went anyway.

It took all of a few minutes on her back to decide to bring her home. Even DH, who was a sport about the whole deal said before I did that we should buy her for the kiddo. Poor guy, he walked in from work and got a "Honey, go hook up the trailer." Him "Why?" Me "In case I buy this horse I'm going to check out." Yeah, I'm pretty lucky! Meet Bailey, 12 year old 4 time world champ with over 1,100 points. Her titles are in Hunter under and WP, the majority of her points in the hunt seat side of things. She's had quite a bit of time off so we are in tune up mode right now, she will be my 8 year old daughter's all around mare (if I can be persuaded to share haha!) starting this next season. She is needing a few groceries, not much but she is a bit thin to be putting into heavy work just yet, good farrier work (scheduled for tues) and some time being tuned back up after her hiatus. Lope is a bit fast (no doubt that will come with getting legged up) and flying changes are a bit sloppy but both will be easy fixes. Technically she's a paint (she has a cute little belly spot) & my first I've owned. Showed plenty for others, keeping all of the white sparkling wasn't on the list of things I wanted to do forever so her minimal white is perfectly fine with me!

Disposition is fantastic. Quiet & laid back, the only thing she has even halfway gawked at was in my outdoor and I have all of my jumps & components in the corner getting ready for a fresh coat of paint. The dozens of standards, piles of poles and a couple dozen brush/flower boxes with their contents spewed out into a giant pile of artificial craziness was enough for a quick 'hmm, what the heck is that crap' look and moved on about our business. Her small reaction was enough for me to refill the flower boxes and put them all over the arena to work around and the 2 pieces of the roll top became a back through obstacle. She didn't gawk a second time.

Anyway, after all that chatter, the important part, pictures!

Me on her when we went to check her out. Now for me to lose the 20 some lbs I've gained since losing Hondo & Missy this year. After losing Hondo after 31 years together I lost most of my desire to ride, sent home outside horses and haven't taken any in since, admittedly it's been kind of nice not dealing with other people's youngsters & problem horses and I'm somewhat of the mindset that I may be done with that. Don't need the income so it's really tempting. Missy was my saving grace after losing the old man and to then have lost her was like putting the nail in the coffin. Hoping Bailey & Merit (my 2 yo) will be what I need to mend my broken heart and to lose a few before wearing breeches in public.

DD taking her for a spin, they worked really well together. Next challenge is teaching kiddo how to ride one with a spur stop. She stops with seat and/or reins also but buries her butt in a spur stop. Hoping she'll feel DD's little legs.

Out and about checking out the sights & sounds of the farm.

My littlest nephew (he's 4). He told me when done "Aunt Manny (the d is an n for now) I wike Baiwey mo' than chubby Stubby" - my sister's (his mom) quarter pony that DD also shows & the nephews ride.

:wave:Hey girl!

Gosh what a beauty!
I wish some "poor" horse like that needed a quick home round where I live! If you find her missing next weekend... I'm sure I have no idea where she went....

What a nice little mare! So glad you found something to spark your interest again. I, too put on weight this summer & would like to lose about 15 pounds-it's so hard past a certain age & you're a lot younger than me-LOL.

Thanks guys! I'm really, really liking her. She got kicked out into the 'grey pasture' yesterday with Lacey, Merit & Honor. She couldn't have cared less about the new horses. Lacey is usually queen B but is in raging heat and was hopeful her new pasture mate was a manly friend, DH found it slightly amusing and says "Well, learned something new about my horse today. Never thought she would swing both ways." It was pretty amusing watching Lacey throw herself at another mare. Hussy. Merit was the only one that got any backtalk from Bailey but he's a nosy butt and pestered the snot out of her, no doubt in hopes she'd be his new friend because his mother and sister are not his biggest fans. She squealed and stomped a hind once and that was the extent of the drama. Lol.
