Hello there,

I'm pretty new to Western riding. I was wondering if you could help me with saddle fitting.

I have an OTTB, for whom I had a saddle fitted professionally, which went fine, however, I also have a young AQHA, who at the time the fitter came, she hadn't been started.

Now she's been professionally started, and I need help with fitting her a saddle. She's not fully grown yet, so I understand she'll probably fill out more, get taller, longer Etc, so I'm not desperate to get an amazing fit, as she will change, however, I do want a decent fit.

She's 3 and a half, very small/low withers (or what I consider low, as I've had TBs mostly!), she's got quite a flat back, but isn't fat (she's quite small - 14hh, v narrow girth, and her face is too small for med bridles, she has to have pony! She's quite petite, but a fairly average QH build - just scaled down a touch hehe!)

The pictures are quite old (atleast a year), I'll try and get some tomorrow if I remember! :p Sorry it's not much to go on guys, if I have to I'll get the saddle fitter out again, but I don't want to pay a fortune when she's going to change shape and I can't exactly say "Well, now you've told me what bar etc she'll need, I'm gonna decline your expensive new saddles and get one of ebay instead" It's just not the done thing, and not fair on the fitter either!

Anyway, any advice/ideas welcome, but please no rude comments, like I said, if I can't get a definitive answer on here, then I'll bite the bullet and pay for the fitter to come out :)

Thanks guys :)

By the way, I know there is a sticky with advice, but I was wondering if anyone could help me, I've read the sticky, but there aren't any saddler near me to use the methods, other than calling out the lady who is a saddle fitter anyway (but she sells show saddles, so they're all a little over budget for me) so if you could help me, it'd be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks,
Holly

.

From the Pics, Breed and the age, I would say a Saddle with Semi-QH Tree/Bar in it.

Try to find a good used Brand, as you Horse most likely will fill out by age 5

I would stay away from those cheap no name saddles

Thank you so much for your help. I was thinking along the same sort of lines (semi qh) but it's so good to hear it from someone who has more experience when it comes to western tack than I have! And I agree, as tempting as the cheap saddles are (tempting price I mean) I know they're rubbish really - I'll get scouting for a good one!
Many, many thanks!
