what are the different western saddle styles and what makes them different from each other?

I see saddles for sale that are advertised as "barrel racing saddle" "roping saddle" "cutting saddle" ect....

in what way are they different?

i know the size i need, I just don't know what style would be best for me.

Different Western Saddle Types

Very basic, but a good overview.

I'm not endorsing the shop, although they did fine by me with the bit I bought from them.
that is an awesome link bsms

got my new saddle yesterday ---

went with a 16.5" roping saddle that had a nice deep seat pocket
nice simple and sturdy -- no tooling or engraving or frills

guy let me put it on his horse and try it out, i got up, turn his horse around, walked about 3 steps, and was like "yup, this is the one"

old one was a 16" buffalo custom either trail or pleasure saddle --- high cantle, and no seat pocket whatsoever -- made it really hard for me to get my legs on the horse or maintain balance
