If you really want to be competitive they should match, or at least get saddle pads that have black highlights in them... then you could do a black shirt.

Chaps yes if you really want to show and be competitive, and if you want to have a black top then you have to get black chaps. I suppose i should ask you how competitive you really want to get and what color your horse is. If your going to spend the money to show you want to get stuff that is going to last you as long as possible and you want to get (what you can in your price range) that is going to get you noticed.

i WANT to be competitive...the only thing holding me back is I have no money except $200..

If you want to stay cheap for now i wouldnt worry about chaps, a good pair of chaps would take up your whole budget. I would start with the basics and build from there. If you buy things now that will work for you if you ever do get the money then you will already have some of the things you will need. I would start with your shirt, black is a good color to go with because if you do eventually go deeper you can always get a vest to go with whatever colors you decide to go with. I would get a blouse or better yet a slinky shirt. If your going with black, your hat has to be black as well, and a black belt. Black boots. A belt buckle would be a great thing to get to add a bit of silver to your outfit for little cost. And as far as jeans go get a normal blue color, dont get a dark, light or a funny colored wash at all. Wrangler jeans would probably be the best fitted and colored. I would look at some of these sites for things.

See I have to buy things for western and english..

So im gonna get the western apparel first then get the english apparel since all i need for the english classes is the jacket and shirt.i have everything else..

well, ive been meaning to buy jeans.lol...and today Im going to buy a pair of brown cowboy boots and black cowboy. well my nana is buying them..so thats one les thing i need to worry about..

so ill try to find a cheap but nice belt.just for now..ill buy a nicer one once I get another pay check.

Ok, I have to different saddle pads.. I have a thick black saddle pad(isnt the pretty thing in the world.its been ridden in everytime i ride) and i have a fleece wither riser thing(my saddle is too big at the withers and hits his withers, but both of those things fix that problem)..I have two solid San Jaun Pads that I put on top of the black pad.. they are pistachio and a red one.. So should i get a slinky to match those colors?

I just noticed you said belt buckle..not belt.lol... Do you think I should just buy a belt buckle or buy a belt with rhinestones or silver on it?

I have a brown saddle and brown/silver headstall... Can I still have on a black cowboy and black boots..and maybe black in my shirt?? or do I need to go brown?


And also, Do I need to clip Duke(my horse)? Right now he has a medium winter coat.. but i really dont think i can clip his whole body and make him look half decent.haha...but do i need to clip a bridle path? or his fetlock? anything like that?

No your tack can be brown and you can wear black

If you can afford a flashy belt/buckle combo then go that route, if not get a black belt and spend more on the buckle

It will be easier to get a red/black slinky the pastchio so I would got the red/black route.

I wouldnt body clip unless you have done it before and you could blanket him after to keep him warm, your better off just point clipping.
Clip:
Bridle Path
Fetlocks
Trim along hoof/hair line

I would scissor:
Face whiskers-muzzle-surrounding eyes(make them flush with his coat, dont dig into the coat then it will look like he has wholes in his face)
If he has any longer hair under his chin and bottom of muzzle (my horse gets like billy goat kinda longer hairs in the winter under his chin, if your horse gets those too just trim them level with the rest of his hair)
If he has any long hair sticking out of his ears just trim it level with the curve of his ear. Dont worry about the inside

ok..wait...so his hairs above his eyes..not his eyelashes..the ones above it..they are suppose to be trimmed?..i never knew that!

Could I just trim his muzzle..i have done that many times..but i have also scissored them...

Anther thing... I have decided since my friend is only riding english in this show that I will too. And use all my money on just one discipline..then my next paycheck I will buy everything western I need... And I completely forgot I have got to get my vet out this week to do an updated coggins and update Duke on his vaccines!!

Do you show english or western? cuz I have a few questions concerning English show apparel..

btw. I dont have a trainer. which is why i am asking you all these questions.. lol

Yeah the whiskers above and under his eyes.

If you feel comfortable trimming his muzzle with the clippers then go for it, I usually do it with the scissors in the winter (im in MN so my horses get alot of hair) because their face is not a place to make a mistake before a show and with all the hair here its hard to make it all even, so i just scissor the whiskers.

I am mainly western now but when I was in Youth I showed both.

At least up in a bun yes, if you can make a tight bun without fly aways then you dont need the net but the net is just easier
