So ummm yesterday I went out and rode the BO's OTTB for the first time. I loved it! She moves so nicely and all you have to do is ask once. She's not super excitable but moves when you ask her to. I feel so good on her because she is 16.2. Piper is so sluggish in comparison and Piper is only 14.3-15h. I know Piper has just begun her training but she is one of those horses that in order to get a trot you've got to work for it and you play heck keeping her in the trot. Which we have been working on for a few weeks now.

BO asked if I would trade Piper.... Her daughter wants to use her for 4h and she likes Piper. I don't know...I really like the OTTB mare but she cribs and she isn't registered.

BO also offered a trade until 4h was over then I could buy the mare if I wanted to. I don't know if I can afford 2 horses but a lot can happen in between now and then. BO knows my goals and thinks the TB mare would better fit them.

I'm not sure what to do......

Anyone have any thoughts?

hmmm thats a hard one but im leaning more towards the Ottb but then again im a sucker for ottbs, but what goals are you going for?

i think it depends on your your goals, btu i would go for the TB, you would get to see piper and stuff, but you would have a great horse also, its sorta win win

Without beating me with a stick....I would love to have a Friesian Sporthorse. But I'm clearly aware that a cross between Piper and a Friesian wouldn't be what I prefer. I have a lot of research to do and money to save before I'll breed....but the Thoroughbred is exactly what I would picture as throwing a nice Friesian cross.

Until then I'd love to do fun shows. But I'd like to do the shows with a horse that is more willing. I really don't want to get rid of Piper. For a young horse she is incredibly calm and easy going. On the other hand I'm the type of rider who likes a horse with a little more go than I think she MAY ever have.

It's just that when I rode this horse I was like "This is it. I love this." I didn't want to get off.

Just a FYI - if she's OTTB, she's registered. Jockey Club requires all TB's racing in sanctioned races be registered.

Look under her top lip for a tattoo. You can trace her papers that way

I wasn't sure if you could get a hold of her papers without transfers. I'll get her lip number if I can read it. If I do get her how would I get her papers? Just contact the Jockey Club?

Yes. Its something like 275 dollars for a copy of her foal certificate/ registration papers, and to prove that you're her current owner, you just have to have a bill of sale signed by the previous owners, or something similar. Most racehorse owners won't give you an OTTB's papers when you buy them off the track, because it keeps you from racing them again. I was lucky though and got them to photocopy my guys, lol.

As much as I love Thoroughbreds, I would NEVER take a cribber! Never ever! I'd would run the other way, haha.

I would stick to Piper, she's only started her training, after all! You can train her to be just like this Thoroughbred you like!
