I am afraid of the dark. But even more so, I am petrified of Moths. Moths scare the CRAP out of me. Oh my gosh. I can hold spiders all day long, and I've owned snakes for years. I can do bugs and those little skeeter eaters just fine... But I draw the line at moths. My family always starts cracking up when I freak out during dinner because a moth flew into my face. I've choked many, MANY a time on my dinner because a moth has decided to fly into my hair. My lord...

One night at the barn I was at, a few friends and I stayed up late to go through our tack shed. The barn was privately owned and my best friend lived on the property, so we could pull all nighters and sleep in the stalls and no one really cared. So her and her husband are outside going through a shed trying to find a hammer while I'm in the tack shed getting the nails. (we were putting up plyboard because my goat kept getting out...) Well I'm standing in the darkness trying to find the nails when all of a sudden this huge black thing come flying at me. Alright, it's a bat (I THINK!) It lands on my arm and I shew it away. I was wrong. It wasn't a bat it was a freaking moth! My hand touched it and it started crawling up my arm with it's stupid little gangly legs attached to my sweater. It's fat little body was all twitching and it's coming up to my face and I'm panicking so I scream bloody murder. Once. Twice. Three times. Then I hear someone outside say "Oh ****..." and my best friends husband runs into the tack shed, thinking something is wrong with me he yells if I'm okay. By now I'm sobbing. He doesn't understand. I yell at him to get it off of me. He asks me what he needs to get off of me. I tell him "THE MOTH!" I'm still sobbing. So I think he's going to save me right? Pull the hideous creature off of me and squish it, right? Wrong. He's on his knees in laughter. He then proceeds to leave the tack shed still laughing hysterically, grab a camera, and take a series of pictures of me crying holding my arm out with the hugest moth I've ever seen latched onto my sweater.

It was even worse when two days later those pictures came up on his facebook AND myspace. He then posted them to mine. Jerk face.

So what are your irrational fears?

Death- Anything dead.
Cancer
The dark big time! One time the power went out and the baby woke up for his night bottle and diaper change. I couldn't leave the room to get any of it for him. I was to afraid. So I ended up wrapping him in a couple of his burp clothes and rocking him back to sleep. I have to sleep with some sort of light on unless my husband is in the bed with me. He works nights.

Tall buildings
big bodies of water
flying on an airplane
going on a boat

I'm a big ol fraidy cat

I have a a few:

*Water. I HAVE to keep my eyes on the surface at all times when I'm driving because I'm afraid it will "disappear" or freeze over with ice and trap me. I can't swim at night either because you can't see the surface.

*Two-legged Things. I can't stand the idea of ANYTHING walking on two legs when it isn't suppose to. I have no idea why though... It just scares me...

*Being watched. I think I'm always being watch... Like, someone's peaking in my curtains or following me when I'm out for a walk... I know it's illogical, but that doesn't change a thing.

I'm afraid of vomiting.

My therapist assumes there are probably also other reasons why I've developed that phobia, but I think one of the triggers is perhaps a stomach bug that I caught around 10 years ago.

I felt so * sick during whole the night. It started a bit before 8 pm and lasted till around 8 am in the next morning (I'm pretty sure it was something like that; I still remember that night). I didn't vomit during the night but the feeling was unspeakable; you can't know it if you haven't gone thru it yourself. If I tried to descibe it I'd say I shuddered and sweated cold sweat during these hours. Finally in the morning I puked three times on after other. I haven't vomited after that.

There are also other reasons that have perhaps impacted on my fear. I for example remember how one of my childhood best friends vomited one day when we were in preschool. We were sitting around a table, waiting our dinner. Few months later she was gone; the reason behind vomiting etc. symptoms was a tumor in her brain. I also know that I was taken in a hospital and spent there few days when I was infant because of a nasty stomach bug. I can't remember that but perhaps my subconscious does.

Anyway, I suffered from that fear when I was child (around the time when the case 1. happened). Then there were few "latent years" which went all well and I didn't think whole the thing almost at all. Unluckily the fear returned few years ago. I decided to start to search for help when it started to turn worse and worse and I started to have (almost) daily panic attacks, psychosomatic nausea and anxiety because of a non-stop fear of it that I'd vomit anytime. Now I'm going through a therapy (started around an year ago) and feel better. I don't feel myself anxious whole the time but my phobia is still pretty bad. If I have to do something that exposes me to vomiting or stomach bugs (or if I feel so) I feel still VERY uncomfy and bet that if I had to vomit, it'd be EXTREMELY terrifying for me.

Centipedes! THEY ARE DISGUSTING! Sometimes I'll find them in my house, and I freak out every time.

Deep water. Anything more then 10 feet deep is scary.

I can't think of much else... I don't like the dark when I'm all by myself, but I tolerate it.
