My grandmother and I were looking at the papers of her registered mares. I was possibly interested in breeding one or two but I want to know what the letters mean about them and possible foals. There is no guarantee or even high chance of breeding, but we were just extremely confused but interested. Also, would the foals be sound minded? Aka no mental handicaps (If you can tell from blood work).

I can be of absolutely no help in deciphering as I only know what a few of the acronyms stand for, but if all else fails I would contact the University of Kentucky's labs and ask for a breakdown explanation.

So it's just saying what blood type they are? Just "hey, just a random fact. This is what it is, nothing you can do with it but yeah". That link would be useful if I knew what more of the words meant. I'll have to gets dictionary tomorrow lol

It's for verifying parentage. It's not 100% fool proof, but you can tell if a horse is for sure not related if certain results come out.

In most registries, DNA typing has replaced blood typing, being way more definitive.
I am surprised that blood typing was used here, as it is dated 2000.
Just a point of interest
By the way, humans also have a lot of different blood type systems, beyond the ABO and Rh system that is used, which made cross matching for transfusions, 'interesting at times. I did rotate through blood banking, as part of my training, but was never my favorite department
