Is there anything in your boarding contract requiring current shots and farrier work? If so, maybe your BO could demand receipts from the owner to prove she really gave her the shots and had a farrier out.ya i have been looking into buying my own lately..the lady has been telling me that all of her shots and ferrier things have been done...i think different and the lady were i board her now thinks different too
I could definitely understand not giving shots if the horse really just had shots done (double dosing can't be good for the horse), but you might still be able to get a farrier out - unless your contract prohibits you from providing basic care . Even if she did have her hooves done, if the horse is in pain, then she obviously needs more attention to her hooves. I wouldn't challenge the owners honesty at this point, I'd just get a different farrier out, and if she objects point out that you can't ride a lame horse, and she obviously needed more attention because she is in pain.
Long term, you're probably going to have to buy this horse, or give up on your lease :?. The way you describe the owner, makes her sound dishonest and crazy, definitely someone you don't want to be connected to for very long.
