What does it mean when a horse is listed as 'private treaty'?

It means you discuss the price with the person, or they will disclose the price if you contact them. Basically they don't want anyone and everyone to know the horses price. Generally (NOT always) private treat horses are expensive

ahh ok, I get it. I did email on a horse that was listed as private treaty and asked about the price. It was $30,000 or you could lease it for $3000 for 6 months $6000 for a year and had to pay them a 'loss of use' tax. My jaw hit the floor! I thought private treaty meant something like you could buy their horse but they kept breeding rights to it...something like that
