$600 a week?
I was told by a visiting person that the lessons in her home state were $50 a hour or $600 a week?? really?

WOW is all I can say are they really that high out there?
Makes me happy I am in the midwest.

Here in Washington it's about $40-$45/hour. Most invoice monthly, and the monthly rate of course just depends on how many 1-hour lessons you have total. That's English lessons.

25-60 depending on instructor and whether private or group. I pay 200 a month for my son and he gets 5 group lessons a month. If he didn't have a horse at home to work with he'd be in at least two lessons a week and we may move to that if he gets interested in anything other than what he is doing now. Was that maybe a month? A week maybe if you board your horse with the trainer and both are being trained multiple sessions and you are very upper level with an elite trainer. I've had lessons in Maryland and paid no where near that amt.

It depends on the type of lesson you are taking and who you are taking them from. I pay $80 per hour for a private lesson (AQHA) but there is a great schooling barn just down the road from me that charges $30 per hour for a group lesson (Hunt). I also know a place that will give you AQHA lessons that are private for $25 per hour...

Depends, as usual, on location and somewhat on discipline.
HEre is an example of a h/j type barn, in the "closer" suburbs.
Lessons at Columbia Horse Center

My reining trainer charged me $50/hr on my own horse....

but if you are farther away-like Hagerstown, it is probably cheaper.

It's around about a dollar a minute for average trainers, but some of the more accomplished trainers tend to want somewhere in the region of $70-95 per hour.

I'm not sure why someone would pay $600 a week for lessons when you could pay $50 an hour. $600 a week is 12 lessons at that rate. Who takes 12 lessons in one week?

$600 is probably a training fee where the trainer rides and maintains the horse. It's probably for the month. Around here it's around $600 to $1200 per month and it usually includes a lesson per week, sometimes more.

I'm in Maryland and pay $45 for a 1/2 hour private lesson...thats at a h/j barn. I agree with above poster and say that the $600 most likely includes some sort of training fee...although most places around here do training board for the month for $1000 so I couldn't see paying $600/wk!
