I noticed on Kay's right back hoof that she has a piece partially torn off. It's about 3/4" wide and goes from the bottom of the hoof up about 1". I tried to pull it off and cut it off, but it won't budge. She won't lift the foot for me like she usually does. She didn't have any problem lifting the rest and I kept going back to that one between each of her other feet. She would not lift. She was slightly limping on it today. Her farrier can't make it out until Friday. Should I keep trying to get this piece off or will it be OK until Friday?

find another farrier just to take care of it this once. do you know of any other farriers? maybe a friends horses farrier?

a friend of mine who uses a different farrier one time needed mine bc her horse threw a shoe and hers couldnt make it out for a week.

my farrier is really good, he once came out at 10:30 at night because my horse ripped a chunk out of his rear hoof.

Everyone in our area uses the same farrier. That's why he's so busy and can't make it until Friday. He's booked solid because everyone was waiting until after the holidays to get their horses feet done. I already had an appointment to get her trimmed and shoes reset for Friday. Is this chip something that can wait until Friday at noon or should I see if he can squeeze us in before that and bump someone elses appointment? She's never had anything like this before so I really don't know how severe an issue this is.

If she's limping on it I would call and ask if he could come earlier, if she isn't limping don't worry. If it looks like a 'hang nail' I would vetrap tightly around the hoof so she doesnt pull MORE hoof wall off.

Thanks. We are a small community and I would hate to have someone upset because we bumped their appointment for an issue that's not severe.
