My high school graduation is Monday. I was planning on wearing a pair of dressy carpris and a nice top, since I'm not much of a dress person, but do I need to wear a dress? I would definately have something short enough not to come out of the bottom of the gown, but there's a split in the front that goes up past my knees; how much of my capris/dress should be showing there? Also, what about the neckline-is it okay if my shirt/dress underneath shows? Pictures of dresses and what would and would not be appropriate would be great. Really no one will ever see what I'm wearing but I'm worried about the parts that will show (around knees and neckline.) Thanks!

Be respectful, wear a dress. It's only for a couple of hours of your life and it won't kill you. You can change right after if you want, but for the ceremony, yes, I would wear a dress.

As long as it's simple and not some giant poofy dress that makes your gown look like a cupcake wrapper on you, it's FINE!

Capri's are perfectly fine, you can't see what's under the gown.... half my Senior class wore shorts and t-shirts!

I wore a 1-piece dressy lil thing that was basically a skirty-shorts outfit (yes it was in-style then... I'm ancient) with a pair of nice flats since our graduation was on the well-irrigated football field (heels would have sunk, we were told not to).

Our gowns were so gigundo that nothing showed around the neckline and the split you could just barely see a glimpse of underneath as you walked. As long as you don't pick a clashing color (if your gown is not black... my poor sister had to wear a mustardy, yellow-gold monstrosity it was UGLY) it will be fine.

I'm wearing a dress. I would look very out of place if I didn't. It's an important event in your life, dress up and look smashing for a few hours! :)

Here is what you do...go buy a dress you want to wear, one that is appropriate for the event and that you really want in your closet. It is your grad present to you! :)

So, what was your decision? :)

I know I'm pretty late for suggesting this but it would be much better if you have worn a dress. I'm not also fond of wearing dresses and would usually go for comfy clothes. In fact I do not have any dress available in my closet, so I had to buy a new one. I got my beautiful dress from Macy's. But I actually think that you should focus more on your academic regalia since it will eventually cover your "beautiful" dress. Right? So, I had to look for graduation gowns and luckily I found these http://www.gradshop.com/academic-regalia.html. Graduation day is your special day so might as well wear something that will make you feel special. Make an effort to look great! :)
