I am most likely purchasing a mare this weekend, and they can include a saddle for an extra $1200.

I dont know anything about it though.. just that its a reining saddle.
Do you recognize it at all, or know how much it might be worth, or anything about it?
thanks

here is the piccy, thats the only pic i have of the saddle:

Doesn't look like a reining saddle to me, reining saddles have shorter horns, and usually the front of the seat is more built up on them.

Most name brand saddles have the name stamped on the leather somewhere, look under the fenders, etc. It seems to be a decent saddle and worth $120.00. Saddles are not cheap, and if it fits you and your horse and you are comfortable in it, go ahead and get it.

Looks like a show saddle to me. From what I've seen, silver is usually reserved for fancy show saddles. I wouldn't wanna ride in one every day-- they're expensive!

Mmmm, Circle Y. <33 I like them. I got to ride in one and it was awesome. I've heard that they are worth the money. But, does the saddle fit you?

lol yes it is extremely comfy and it does fit me :) Also, it fits the mare very well, and the owners said its hard to find a saddle that fits her. She really likes this saddle. :)

I did a quick search and found some in the 650-900 range (used)
Okay.. so this one might be a bit overpriced? I asked, they said that the saddle would be negotiable.. so we might be able to get it for $1000 or so :)
I think they got it custom made.. either that.. or brand new. I think they've had it for about 5 yrs? But, as you can see in the piccy, its in excellent shape.

Overall, it's hard to tell via a computer monitor. Since they added the silver corner plate and it was a not an original feature, I'd have to say that the saddle was not on Circle Y's upper end.

That said, I own a Circle Y myself and really like it. Well made and very comfortable. Based on what you know about it (age does play a factor as well) I wouldn't pay $1,200 for it.

It's a good idea to look around and see what comparible saddles are selling for in order to get an idea on a fair price for this one. Personally, I'd probably offer somewhere in the ballpark of $850.00 and see what they say.

Good luck on the purchase of the mare. :)

It's not a show saddle, at least not a modern show saddle. It's a trail/all around saddle that someone put silver on.

Depending on its age, Circle Y's generally go for $400-1,000. IMO, it's not worth $1,200. I'd offer them $550, and no more. It's not really something you can show in anymore. It's an outdated style and color for any kind of showing beyond a local Friday night "Show-deo". The most you would want to do with it is trail and trail ride in. You could use it for gaming. The seat looks deep enough.
