ok, i need a new pair of field boots and i need reliable sturdy boots that will hold up for a good price. i also for some reason seem to have big calfs. like 17 inch. so what would u reccomend? whats your favorite brand?

Almost every single person at our barn has ariat tall boots... and almost every single one of them has had their zippers break. Several as early as the first 3 months of owning them. Apparently even the Monaco's (you know, the $900 ones) have crappy zippers and break easily. (The monaco's also wear holes through the leather within a year of heavy riding too but that's a different story) I got some non zippered Heritages when they were clearancing them out and get tons of compliments on fit and looks. They are beautiful and pretty comfortable too but not the top of the line leather so they've been hard to break in. I'm saving my money for a pair of Sergios but I know a lot of people don't have a need for that kind of boot. I still recommend Ariats to people just because they look great and nicer then a lot of the cheaper boots out there, but I also tell everyone to take them to a boot repair shop and replace the zippers with something better asap. Sorry I'm not more help! but in my experience Ariat's quality is going way down.

Ariat. Hands down. I had a pair of Ariat Crownes for a LOOOOONG time without the zipper and they have held up great (they are now 7 years old and have rips in them, but hey.)

Now, I have Ariat Heritage zip boots and they are holding up well so far. I've only worn them a handful of times because they are strictly for shows. But I've had a sales person tell me that the reason the zippers bust is that people tend to get ones that are really too small for their calf.

i always thought it was because the teeth were absolutely tiny, esp for something that gets as lot of wear and tear and are supposed to fit snugly. that's what my friends who are sales reps tell me as well. buy the ariats but get the zippers replaced with a decent zipper.

MOUNTAIN HORSE BOOTS!!!

I know some have had bad luck with them, but I have had nothing but great experiences, and still having great experiences.

I have quite a few pair, that I have somehow accumulated over the years. Still unsure how I obtained so many, but yet - there they are.

I know that the first pair were "Hand Me Down's" by my MIL. She used them for 2 years and then decided it was time to open up a brand new pair. She was going to just toss them but I took them instead.

I have been wearing them for quite some time, 1 - 2 years? Unsure the exact, but I do have to say that they are STILL holding strong. No rips. No tears, no damage. So seams coming apart or anything else you can think of.

These are a tad big on me, big where I can just pull them on and off without having to use the zipper. My MIL has a very large calf, and I do not, so that is why they are larger on me. But they are great.

I use them for anything to be honest.

I also have a pair of their Dressage Boots. I know I recieved these for a gift. Xmas or Birthday, cannot remember. These only come out for shows. So they still look brand new.

And I have 2 pairs of their winter boots, the RimFrosts.

Now I do know that these boots come in a wide calf, and an even wider calf.

The Mountain Horse Boot on the most part, are strong, hearty, very strong zippers. I have yet to have the zippers on mine break.

I love them! I wont use anything else but!

thanks everyone! yea.. my last pair of boots were ariat, and the zippers broke and the leasther by the heels both split... within a year but i do have to admit the calves were too tight. but i was inexpierance and didnt realize they came in wide.
-- MIeventer i really been keepin my eye on those richmond feild boots! they are really sharp. and i have always wanted to try A pair of mountain horse boots... im thinking about getting a pair of rimfrost boots i seen them in a dover catolog for only $99 but how warm are they? because naturally im not a person thats gets cold easy so i dont want to be sweating like crazy in them!
