racing. going over small jumps that they basically canter over [or simply canter over] is way less stressful than running full out imo

agreed. you see a lot more lame race horses than you see lame horses cantering over poles.
Racing.
Racing is worse, but I wouldn't be caught dead jumping a 4yo 3ft repeatedly either.
It is like the lesser of the two evils kind of thing IMO... I too would do neither to a young horse, both are detrimental to their joints, muscles, and hooves.
Which is worse chronic alcohoism or chain smoking? Neither one is a good idea. You don't need to know which is worse because you shouldn't be doing either one.
It sounds like you are trying to make a case for 'this is OK because it is not as bad as that'.
how so ? i mean, what did you get from her post that would lead you to believe that ?
It's like comparing apples and oranges. Both are bad. I'm not talking about 3 inch high cross rail "jump" of course :) . But if you jump 4 yo 3 feet that's as bad as racing youngster IMO.

Is there any other reason to ask that question that way?

Doubtful.

I agree with kitten and kevin.

Sounds as though someone is looking for backup to justify what they are doing.
' just wondering cuz we were having a discussion about it :) '

this statement does not make me think that....

maybe she is, i dont know for sure, but neither does anyone else. i feel like people jump to conclusions when they really dont know the reason.
um for your guys information me and my friends do have wierd conversatioons. im in no way trying to "justify" anything im doing! i do have a 3 year old...but im not even jumping him.
i just wanted to see others people thoughts.seeing what other peoople think of the matter
next time please dont jump to conclusions. its rude.
thanks

p.s. thank you gypsygirl

I'd say racing, but NEITHER one is good. Just because I think one is worse than the other...certainly doesn't mean I think one is BETTER than the other. I would NEVER do either.

There are so many older trained horses around, why jump the babies?

I agree, I got the same impression after riding it.

Great way to put it!

i really was just curious so i dont appreciate all of u assuning im trying to make an excuse.
i was wondering which one you thought was worse because ive seen both. and when i mean worse i mean which one will end up the worst in the long run. im just wondering about it.

Neither one will end BETTER in the long run...

What you'll probably end up with, EITHER WAY, is a horse that has arthritis before it even hits 20. There's no way that getting arthritis from racing young or getting arthritis from jumping young is better than the other. They are both bad.
