My family has an aged pony that we ended up free leasing when my sister moved on to something else. As we only had room for 2 horses we had to move her along but didn't want to sell her as she is quirky and old and we didn't want her to end up in the wrong hands.
She has been at her new home for 2 years and there was talk of us getting her back due to their personal reasons but they decided to keep her.
Haven't heard from them since fall so drove by to check on her and didn't see her anywhere in the field with the other horses.... Assumed maybe she was in the barn- went back again and still the same thing (and today is a beautiful day).
No current phone # and no one home... So now we are waiting to be able to stop by when someone is there or try to find a current number.

Just needed to vent cause I'm worried, and hoping there is just some simple explanation to this and that something bad didn't happen

sure theres a simple reason but this is the reason i hate the idea of loaning

Hopefully there is a simple reason, but as leah said, this is one of the reason's I won't do a feed lease unless the horse is kept at my barn. Just the worry over how the horse is really doing, and if they change their phone number, but don't tell you, why they did it, and how to get a hold of them. And of course the horror stories I've heard, about all the things that can go wrong, though I'm sure that they don't happen very often. Good luck. When you find out what is up, let us know.

We thought that it would be the best thing since that way we still have a say in her healthcare and all of her dealings, but we just didn't have the room for her at our house. We only have enough for 2 horses- so we were running out of options as there aren't many good places local to retire for a reasonable price, and we didn't want to sell her and then see her end up in the wrong hands.
