Will he or wont he?

We all love a will he or won't he guessing game of grey genetics, right!?

This colt is a yearling IDSH. His father was a bay, now gray. His dam is a bay. Big man here came out chestnut. He did not have the typical grey signs, but what do you think?

Hmm, I feel like he's going to grey. You'll have to keep us posted! Looks like he is going to be a big boy!

I'm in the Grey group as well, you can really see it on his face and looks to be in the flank area too. Pictures are not to good but what I can see yep Grey..
And just wanted to point out, that halter is way to small for him..
How old is he ? He could grey Lighter in the arm pit and flank.

I believe OP said the horse is a yearling.
Interesting markings! I also vote grey.
He looks like a gray to me!

@Allthegreys Also, IDSH? Do you mean Irish Draught Sport Horse?
Hard to tell from that photo as it could be the light picking up a reflection from the coat hairs, making them look like grey flecks

This guy was born dark bay but was already grey by a year old. Chestnut mother, grey sire.

Do you have newborn photos? Red based grey foals have some clear tells that folks who aren't familiar with them don't know to look for. Photos of him within a few days of birth would work as long as they show the colour of his feet.. other signs I look for in a red based foal are the colour of the eyelids (within a few hours of birth), and whether they have any hyperpigmentation.

I am in the grey camp at this stage but yearlings can be tricky sometimes and newborn photos would make it a lot clearer.
