How are everyone's horses behaving? Duffy has been a little bit.. fresh  Not in a bad way.. but raring to go sort of style... but it never lasts long, bless her... no stamina!

One of the mares at our yard figured out she was a mare, squealed, and bolted to the other side of the arena to a stallion.. that was an interesting moment.. had a few tankers too.. them ponies be getting fresh!

Bonnie is shedding like crazy. When I brush her, I can take off enough hair to make a coat for a small dog.

Ahaha I saw a news article a while back saying people use animal hair to turn to wool for clothing?? Maybe you could sell it lol.

I'm wondering, right now, why on earth I didn't clip my entire horse!

I know a person who did that with bunny hair!! She had the fluffiest bunnys... she would make them into sweaters that had little fluffy bunny pictures on them and had her 70 year old husband wear them. It was adorable. (Off topic but I bought a fluffy bunny from them.. it was the cutest bunny ever)

So maybe horse hair sweaters with horses on them? hehe I bet they would be itchy..

I agree about the horses being fresh! A couple of us at the barn went on a trail ride on Sunday (in a wind advisory... whoops) and all the horses were ready to go! It didn't help we ran into a GIANT tree collapsing, had to take a detour and jump some logs, and had to spend half of the trail ride on the top of a hill with no wind protection. Even my steady guy had a couple spooks... one was down a ditch.. that was fun heh

Glad I'm not the only one ;D

Saying that, considering Duffy's 'greeness' under saddle (despite being nearly 7) I didn't ride her yesterday as YO is injured so helped out, and now I'm in agony with me ol' shoulder/neck injury and she didn't put a foot wrong this evening ;) Even with a stallion in there haha!

Is spring coming? It snowed here this morning, and I was going to be heading to the barn to ride. But now school is 2 hours late and the other school is canceled. Oh, and I planted my primroses on Sunday...now you can't even see them withering under 3 inches of snow...

It is a weird spring. It's almost 80* today here in Nebraska, but the forecast says there might be some snow this weekend. Argh.

Glad Duffy was good for you this afternoon :)

Mudpie's a spaztic mess! Not so much spring, as just coming off of stall rest... he's higher than a kite :| Gah! Gotta work on that stupid rearing thing he does –*he can catch some AIR! I was actually concerned that he would flip at one point, and I wasn't on him...

Once the fillary starts coming in... well, then we're all in for it! xD

Me too! She worked very well in w/t for 40 mins and didnt sweat at all... getting fitter!
I love when you can tell when they're getting fitter! How do you get the motivation to work them during the winter? I'm pretty sure if I took my round guy out right now he'd be sweaty after about 15 minutes... I get very lazy in the last months of winter.

WAAA because my trainer would beat me with a broom till I was black and blue if I didn't ride/work her daily ahaha

AND its been super important to be consistant with her for me, IME... you all saw the pics of when I got her -shudder- well building her up, and keeping on top of her education has been paramount. If I slip up, she's all over it like a tramp on chips- no joke, she's a freakin' tester.. so better she gets a daily 'I say we do it, and you do it' session under saddle, or lunge, and then she's happier too!

Not only is Casey shedding, my dogs are shedding like crazy also. Well, shedding more than usual- they are labs after all. Last year in one day, I brushed a whole 5 gallon horse bucket full of hair off of Ariella... Crazy.

Casey is getting happy. Our lawn has a good amount of grass in it- so I have been making little electric pens around it.. And well, I am NOT happy with Casey. She tore it ALL up. She ran around a LOT this afternoon apparently. There is slides almost as long as I am tall(I am 5.5). And the pen is only like 40 x 60 feet.

I am beginning to have more horse hair on me than is on the horses...
They're all pretty hairy so now they've actually been sweating during rides!
I am not looking forward to spring-feel-good-freshness and the whole screaming stallions/mares in heat. Thankfully the stallion I ride is much more broke now, so hopefully he'll maintain his brains despite his hormones. However, it is nice to see horses sweating again.

I never thought I'd ever say this, but I sooooo wish I was covered in horse hair! No signs of shedding yet, and both horses are pretty chill, but every once in a while I see a little head toss thrown in as they trot around the paddock.

Can't wait for spring! Well, I have to of course, just finding it difficult.

It was an exciting ride on Sunday. After a warm week, we had a cold snap for the weekend along with 30 mph gusts and a constant 10 mph breeze. There were monsters around every tree on our trail ride. My normally steady horse was on edge the whole 3 hours. Between grass getting greener, a touch of spring fever, and the cold wind gusts through the trees, it made for an interesting ride.
