I'm from west-central IL, and am owned by Royalty, a black/white paint mare. I owned 3 geldings while in High School, 2 Standardbreds and QH/Morgan cross. The 2 SB's were rescues, and my dad purchased the QH/Morgan from a farm in CO. We lived in NC at the time. All 3 were great horses, and I long to find one like my boys again! As a "creeping up on 40" year old mom, I'd love to find a great horse for not only me but my son.

Anyway, I'm hoping to get some good info here, and have found that my lovely Paint mare is just too much for me. 20 years makes a HUGE difference! haha Oh well, I admit my weaknesses, and hope to learn from them :)

Welcome! I'm pretty new here myself, but it seems like everyone really wants to help. How old is your son?

Thanx for the welcome!

My son is 11, and has never ridden a horse. He lives with his dad (please don't judge without knowing) in a subdivision. I live on a farm. I'd like to get him exposed to as much farm life as possible, including having horses (not saying you have to have a farm to have horses). He just doesn't get any animal exposure where he's at. I don't want him to have a bad experience, so I'd like to find a good, gentle, kid friendly horse we can share. One I can ride whether he's here visiting or not. Unfortunately, the one I currently own is not for a child to be riding leasurely around the pasture.

My boy is 9, and he's just starting out with horses. He's in 4H, and this is his first year showing a market steer. :) He showed bucket calves for two years, now he's running with the big boys and girls. Being around, and especially responsible for, animals has helped my son tremendously. Good luck finding the right horse. If there is 4H where you live, you might contact the Horse Program leader for suggestions.

Thanx for the welcome :) I'm a regular on Craigslist here, haha. I'm currently in IL but we MIGHT be moving to SC. Time will tell at the moment, as we're looking at land there.

Anyway, thanx again!
