Hello from Florida

Hi. Joined the Horse Forum in hopes of finding like minded horse folks near me. I live in Melrose, Fl. I have 2 horses and not a horse friend in sight. Lol. Any suggestions on how to find horse friends? I do not show or participate in equine sports generally. I prefer laid back horse play and causal riding. I was thinking about volunteering at a horse camp near me but right now time is limited. Please share your thoughts.

Hi!! Welcome from a fellow Floridian.

Florida Trail Blazers and Sun Country Trail Blazers are just two groups of riders who ride all over the area and hold various kinds of riding opportunities in the aea.
Ocala Trail Riders is another...
All these groups do local rides and rides that need trailering to with many offering a spot on their trailer to take along someone not having trailering capabilities...
These groups also in "off-season" do other things like water cool fun of canoeing and such..
There is also Southern Obstacle Challenge Association {SOCA}... they have meets in various places in the southeast and are a recognized organization for trail obstacles and put on a nice event.

You also are not far from state, federal and local parks for recreational riding...
Do make note of who owns and if they allow hunting on their land in season...ride accordingly for safety.

There are many places to ride, people to ride with at various levels to fit everyones wants and needs.
You mention owning horses but not boarding so thinking your horses are home...
Ask at your feed store location for a community board and see what is posted, ask the store personnel if they know of...ask on Craigslist in the Farm & Garden section and see what kind of response you get.
And of course, Facebook has tons of groups of riders in different locales all drawn together by wanting the same activity and level of riding shared.
There are many people and groups out there to spend time with riding in companionship and fun.
Welcome again to HF.

We also love pictures, so when feeling a bit more secure here, share some of your beauties, please.

The worst day is instantly better when shared with my horse.....

Thanks for the info. My horses are at home. It has been too hot this summer to do much so needless to say we all need some exercise. My girls are fat now and so am I. Lol All of us have to get back in shape. Hoping for Cooler weather soon.

Do you have a trailer? @LoriF probably lives the closest to you.

@4horses and I live fairly close to one another and regularly ride together. We get LoriF to come along when she can. 4horses and I live west of Gainesville, and Melrose is east of Gainesville.

If you have a trailer, perhaps you can meet us on rides. We have a lot of fun . . . and LOTS of adventures!!!

I don’t have a trailer but am considering getting one. Never really went anywhere that required one but I guess if I’m to ever get out for adventures then I should. These are my girls. Gracie is pretty great, nothing bothers her. Ahna in the other hand is a whole new story.

Hi Alvac, Welcome to the forums.

Yes, I live about 30 minutes away from you and my horses 40 minutes away, they don't stay on my property. 90% of the time when I meet up with @knightrider and @4horses I ride right through Melrose. You are welcome to come along anytime. I don't really have anyone local to ride with either. My issue is that I work almost every weekend and have a couple of days off during the week. Most people have weekends off. Knightrider and 4Horses are always inviting me. I think that we are going to meet up at Watermelon Pond in a couple of weeks.
