Hi! New here....

Hi. My name is Jennifer....recently signed up for the site.

I've wanted a horse ever since I was a little girl....I always spent my allowance on Horse Illustrated magazines and Breyer models (probably like every other horse crazy girl did). Other than the very occasional ride while I was growing up, I was never able to be around horses.

My daughter appears to have inherited that from me. She's been taking riding lessons for over 4 years....I wanted to be able to do something for her that I never had. In March of 2016 we purchased her first horse (but he feels like my first horse too). Pasha is a 19 year old Arabian gelding, and an absolute sweetheart. He's currently boarded at a local Arabian facility, but we just made the decision to move him to our property. We have about 1.25 acres of pasture, and no barn. This feels like an enormous undertaking, trying to figure out the correct fencing and how to build a small barn that'll be safe for him, but I really hope that having him at home will be great. I'm looking forward to being out with him every day, doing barn chores and just hanging out.

I know we still have a LOT to learn about horses, but I'm hopeful that we will learn as we go. My daughter definitely knows more about horses now than I do, which makes me proud AND sad at the same time. This feels like my dream of almost 40 years is finally being realized, and I'm super excited.

Here is a pic of Pasha....this was taken just last week after we braided his mane. He's such a good boy.

Well, of course, you can't keep just one horse on its own, it's cruel to them. That is the excuse why horse people keep buying horses, but there is some merit to it :) So, mum needs some lessons and her own horse.

Cute horse, definitely:)

@Horsef is right. keeping a horse alone is usually not a good idea. will Pasha have some company? at the very least, another horse in sight, or a goat, or donkey or ?

My plan was to bring him home and see how he does by himself. If he does not do well like that, I'd be looking at getting a donkey or maaaybe another horse...as much as I'd love to have a goat, I don't think that's the right choice for us. I'd like to build our barn with the long term goal of having 2 horses.
