Advice for my first show?
Hi guys! I started riding someone's gelding about 2 months ago. He is a 14yo appaloosa who is WP bred and trained, but who hasn't been trained a lot lately. I'm an intermediate rider, but I'm more experienced with English than I am with Western. Before I started riding this guy I had never even seen WP (I moved to the US a few months ago).
His owner is a great person and he has offered me the opportunity to show, whenever he takes the gelding to shows. I've never had an opportunity like this, and I'm really greatfull. Next week is our first show, and I'm going to try my hand at WP (just jog and trot) and EQ. To prepare, I've been riding improvised patterns myself, I've taped myself riding, and I've watched videos on YT.
Do you guys have any tips for me, for my first show? I'm entering to obtain the experience, but I'm already nervous and feel an urge to perform well (because the horse is very experienced). What may I expect, and are there things I absolutely should or should not do?
