Has anyone ever heard of this? Or does anyone know the name of this?
There's a horse at our barn that has been itching his tail so bad that he's rubbing almost all of his hair off his tail and butt.
When the vet came to check him out, she said it was because on the inside of his tail (next to his butt) his nerves are too close to the skin which is making him itch. She also said that it might not even itch all the time, but he might have itched it once and it felt good so he keeps doing it out of habit.
Now I wasn't there when that vet came, but I was curious on what the name might be.
She just told us to put anti-itching cream on, and cover it with vet wrap.
I tried google, but it didn't help much. :?
