Having to put uniprim powder in ices feed everyday problem is he doesn't eat it or eats very little of it. I've put enough water so powder sticks to feed he eats a little bit but that's it.

Tried Karo syrup doesn't like it so won't touch feed. Just putting powder in feed he eats feed an leaves the powder. Reason he's on antibiotics he's got the crud going around the boarding barn I work at.

Cinder has it too but eats up the powdered antibiotics no problem.

Syringing it in mixed with apple juice to make it so it will go through syringe takes 4 60cc syringes by 3rd one he's won't swallow it an just spits it back out. Actually most of it ends up everywhere.

Tried mixing it with apple sauce and a little bit of molasses he's instantly suspicious I've been trying to get him to eat this stuff for 4 or 5 days now. He'll eat a little bit of it but won't finish his feed.

Tried adding more feed after he walked away last night he came back took a few more bites. Left feed in his bucket still had it left this morning at 6 am.

I'm about ready to say heck with it an hope he just gets better on his own. He doesn't act sick just snotty nose an coughing. Cinders snotty nose and coughing is gone now as of this morning.

Why vet gave me powdered antibiotic for ice is beyond me he knows ice doesn't do certain things added to feed. Apparently the uniprim is the go to for this crud going around all the local boarding barns.

I've used honey, maple syrup, ground up peppermints and apple sauce with success

I do have a horse that won't touch anything, even when its something that she'd normally eat - we mix the powder into a thin paste using maple syrup with some water added and syringe it into her mouth

@Horse & Dog Mom have no idea if there's an injectable form. What he doesn't eat I give it to cinder so not ending up throwing out feed an antibiotics. Only dose ice has had was one I syringed into him. So out of 4 doses he's had one minus what went on the ground an me. Supposed to do 7 days.

I'll give vet a call see if I can't do something injectable. Will have to go get it and that won't happen till Wednesday.

I'll give the peppermint tea and Stevia powder a try have both so will mix some up an give it to him. Got nothing to lose if he doesn't eat it I'll give it to cinder tomorrow. But he's now very suspicious of anything I put in feed tub. He loves peppermint so might work.

I have NEVER had a horse eat the Uniprim powder. They never like it. I always get a giant syringe and mix it with applesauce for force feed it.

I'm spacing out on the name of the injectable antibiotic (given in the muscle), but that's works way better and I usually ask my vet for that if I had a horse that needs to be on antibiotics. However, this past summer I had given a liquid antibiotic to both Red and Lilly, which was pretty easy to force feed with a syringe. It just depends what TYPE of antibiotic the vet wants to give.

I put a call into vet haven't heard back. @beau159 think in the muscle antibiotic is Execede.

Tried the peppermint tea and stevia he ate most of feed wasn't thrilled but ate more then with other stuff I've tried. Hope vet calls back he can come give him a shot of Execede think it 4 shots total if I remember correctly.

Vet called back can't come till Friday the soonest probably looking at Monday more then likely.
He honestly thought ice would eat the uniprim said all the horses he's prescribed it for ate it without issue.

All the horses at boarding barn ate it mixed in with sweet feed no problem there were 15 total last weds. Haven't worked since last Wednesday so might be more sick horses now.

Ice isn't acting sick but has a lot of yellow thick snot coming out both nostrils sounds congested. Been cleaning out his nose several times a day.

I wouldn't bother with flavor. I just take the mono eject syringe and I mix it with water. I put a halter in and give it just like I would a de-wormer. Mine will fight me for one or two days and then they just know it's going to happen and they accept it.

Syringing isn't a great option when having to do 4 syringes to get it in him. Have to have enough liquid so powder isn't paste like otherwise it doesn't go through syringe. He does ok till day 3 then he's like go fly a kite with the syringe stuff.

At this point I've given up trying to get the uniprim in him. Put it in his feed if he eats he eats what doesn't oh well. Put peppermint tea In feed put the uniprim in stir it an serve. Likes peppermint better then apples.

He ate it this morning but he was really hungry an happy to be in barn.

Yep have the same syringe had to cut the tip off make hole bigger even then it's a pain in the neck.

Got a bag of Triple crown complete 5 cups of that with other stuff I feed some extra molasses some peppermint tea add uniprim stir up and he gobbles it up that was his breakfast this morning.

Feeding him stuff he absolutely shouldn't have but it's getting him to eat the uniprim.

This totally isn't what I should be doing but I'm tired of dealing with the syringe an it plugging up with meds. Ice has been fairly good about it but I know that won't last.

Something had to give vet can't come till Monday April 1st. Ice has thick yellow snot literally dripping out his nose he sounds all congested he's coughing and sounds terrible.

He's in the barn I cleaned him up his nose was crusted in snot. Doesn't act sick but good grief he sounds just awful.

Hopefully feeding the tc complete an extra molasses doest total mess with his gut. This could mean a big set back with eating hopefully not. Two biggest allergens are in his diet currently molasses an oats the complete has oats.
