If you are looking at horses in Spain and you don't speak Spanish you will need an agent to work with you I would think. I have read accounts of people going to buy horses in Spain and the procedure seems to be the same as anywhere, there are good and bad horse sellers, good and bad horses. Of course you can trial ride, but as to if you will get a good horse for that price, well remember that horses everywhere are priced according to ability and breeding, so you are not going to get a world beater at that price.

Last thing, where are you based, if you take the cost of travel and accommodation to view horses, the cost of export and transport, add that to the purchase price of the horse, then you would have a large chunk of cash to spend locally.....

At my old German yard a lady bought a PRE when she was on holiday. She didn't speak Spanish, didn't ride it, paid the deposit and left. They gelded the horse and kept delaying the travel date to Germany because it was "too cold". They were also supposed to put some miles on it. Instead she got a rude, fresh cut gelding with no manners under saddle that she had no business owning and wouldn't take the instruction she needed. The horse became dangerous and last I'd heard she'd moved it, and wouldn't ride it.

IME I like to be able to see a horse a few times before I buy.

€1000 is pie in the sky prices for a schooled healthy horse. She paid 6000 and 950 for the shipping.
